Daily Scripture Reflection — Day 260

The Alpha Commandment: Receive the Lamb

inspired by the book of mysteries by Jonathan Cahn

“What was the first perpetual commandment God gave to the nation of Israel?” asked the teacher.

“The first of the Ten Commandments?” I replied.

“No,” he said. “The first continuous command was this: ‘On the first day of this month, everyone shall take for himself a lamb.’”

This command was given to establish the 10th of Nisan as the day the Passover lamb was to be taken into the home—coinciding with when Messiah, the Lamb of God, entered Jerusalem, on what we now call Palm Sunday.

The Meaning of “Take” in Hebrew: Lakakh

In Hebrew, the word for “take” is lakakh. It’s a powerful word that can also mean “bring,” “purchase,” “seize,” or even “receive.”

To bring the lamb:** Messiah riding into Jerusalem on a donkey.

To purchase the lamb:** The priests paid for His life—fulfilling the command to buy the Lamb.

To seize the lamb:** Messiah was arrested and taken captive.

To receive the lamb:** The ultimate call—to accept and receive the Lamb for oneself.

The First and Last Command: The Alpha and Omega

“Receive the lamb” is the Alpha commandment—the first perpetual commandment given by God to Israel.

And it’s also the Omega—the last. Because all of history—Jewish, worldly, and spiritual—culminates in this single act: receiving the Lamb.

When Israel finally fulfills this commandment, Messiah will return, and His kingdom will come in fullness.

This is not just a command for Israel but for every person. It’s the foundational act that brings salvation, life, and eternal hope.

Everything begins and ends with—

Receive the Lamb.

The Mission: Will You Receive the Lamb Today?

Is there something God has called you to do, to accept, or to step into that you haven’t yet obeyed?

Open the blessing,—the fullness of His promise—by obeying this Alpha commandment today.

Receive the Lamb, and invite His salvation, power, and kingdom into your life.

Biblical Foundations

Exodus 12:3**

“Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month, every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to his fathers’ houses, a lamb for a family.”

Matthew 23:39**

“For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’” (indicating the recognition and receiving of Messiah)

John 1:12**

“But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”

Colossians 2:6-7**

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”

A Prayer to Receive the Lamb

Heavenly Father,

Today, I choose to receive Your Lamb—Jesus Christ—into my life.

I open my heart to You, trusting in Your salvation and grace.

Help me to understand the fullness of this command—to accept and embrace the Lamb, not just as a historical event, but as my personal salvation and the Lord of my life.

May I walk in Your power, rooted in the truth that I am Your child, and may my life reflect Your love and grace.

Thank You for the gift of the Lamb, who brings salvation, hope, and eternal life.

In Jesus’ name, I receive You. Amen.

Remember:

The first commandment is to receive the Lamb.

The last is to live in the fullness of His salvation.

Begin today—by receiving the Lamb—and experience the fullness of God’s promise for your life.

Blessings in Christ,
