“God’s Sovereignty “
where does the Bible say that in His sovereignty God places one Government in power and brings another down?
The Bible directly states that God sovereignly raises up and brings down governments, primarily in Daniel 2:21 and Psalm 75:6-7. These passages affirm that God controls political shifts, removing leaders and establishing others according to His will and divine purpose.
Key Biblical Passages:
Daniel 2:21: "He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning."
Psalm 75:6-7: "For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he puts down one, and sets up another."
Daniel 4:17: "...the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone He wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people."
Romans 13:1: "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
John 19:11: Jesus told Pilate, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above."
Contextual Meaning:Divine Authority: These verses illustrate that all earthly authority is ultimately under God's control and instituted by Him, even if the rulers do not recognize Him.
Purpose: God uses this authority to achieve His purposes, such as judging nations or promoting righteous outcomes, in accordance with His, perfect wisdom.
Responsibility: While God is sovereign, this does not absolve rulers of their responsibility for their actions.
