30-THE RAPTURE
Genesis 3:15 is known as the Protoevangelium—the "first gospel"—which acts as the foundational prophecy for the entire Bible. It is a declaration of warfare, hope, and eventual victory spoken by God to the serpent (Satan) in the Garden of Eden after the fall of mankind.
"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."— Genesis 3:15
Explanation: The First Prophecy
This verse introduces the spiritual struggle that spans the entire Bible, promising that a descendant of Eve will end Satan's rule.
The Enmity: God creates a divine barrier, separating humanity from unconditional loyalty to Satan.
The Seed of the Woman: This refers uniquely to a future messiah, Jesus Christ, who would be born of a woman (virgin birth).
The Seed of the Serpent: This represents those who follow the ways of Satan (deception, sin, hatred of God).
The Bruised Heel (The Crucifixion): The serpent bites the heel—a painful but not fatal wound. This signifies Jesus' suffering and death on the cross.
The Crushed Head (The Resurrection & Victory): The seed of the woman crushes the serpent's head—a mortal blow, destroying Satan’s power and authority.
Excitation: The Triumph Over Darkness
Genesis 3:15 is incredibly exciting because, at the very moment sin entered the world, God did not leave humanity in despair. Instead, He announced his rescue plan before the curse was even finished being pronounced. It ensures that Satan is a defeated foe with a predetermined doom.
Exploration: Genesis 3:15 and the Last Days/Return of the Lord
While Christ crushed Satan's head through His death and resurrection, the total destruction of Satan's influence is finalized only at the Second Coming.
The "Seed War" Continues: The conflict between the seed of the woman (the Church) and the seed of the serpent (forces of evil) intensifies in the "last days".
Revelation Fulfillment: Revelation 12 depicts this exact scene: a woman, a child destined to rule (Jesus), and a dragon (serpent) trying to kill the child, failing, and then waging war against the woman's offspring.
Final Victory (Return): The return of the Lord represents the ultimate, final blow of Genesis 3:15. As Romans 16:20 confirms: "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.".
The End of the Serpent's Influence: At the return of the Lord, the serpent’s dominion is terminated completely, fulfilling the promise that the head-crushing victory will bring an end to all sin, death, and shame.
In short, Genesis 3:15 is the promise of grace in the middle of ruin, ensuring that Jesus, who suffered, will return as the victorious King.
