DAY 263 THE WARS OF THE HOLY
Day 263: The Wars of the Holy — A Reflection on Jerusalem and Our Spiritual Battles
Inspired by The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn
In a quiet moment of reflection, I find myself pondering the ancient coins stored within a simple wooden box—a collection of relics from a city that has seen more conflict and warfare than any other on Earth: Jerusalem. A city that, despite its lack of vast resources or strategic military advantage, remains the most fought-over place in history. Why is that?
The teacher, wise and deliberate, opened a drawer and revealed these worn and well-preserved coins, each representing a different empire or kingdom that approached Jerusalem’s gates. I looked closely, feeling the weight of history and spiritual significance behind each one.
“Of the entire surface of this planet,” he asked, “what plot of earth do you think has been the most fought over?”
I hesitated, not a history expert, but I sensed the answer was more profound than mere geography. “Jerusalem,” he said confidently. All these coins are from that city. A city that has been reduced to ashes more than once, laid siege to over twenty times, and the battleground of over a hundred conflicts.
Why? I asked.
He explained, “It has no great military or strategic value and no abundant resources. Yet, it’s the city of God, the city of peace. Something about this city sets it apart—something beyond natural explanation.”
And then he revealed the spiritual truth: “Because Jerusalem is at the center of God's purposes. Past, present, and future, it is where His feet will touch the earth, and from where His kingdom will spread.”
This insight struck me deeply. The wars over Jerusalem are not merely political or territorial—they are spiritual battles. The enemy fights relentlessly because Jerusalem is the epicenter of God's divine plan. It symbolizes God's covenant, His promise, and His future reign.
So why is the conflict so intense? Because the purposes God has for Jerusalem—and by extension, for His children—are immense. The spiritual warfare we face is a testament to the significance of God’s divine purposes for our lives. If we are doing His will, we can expect opposition, warfare, and spiritual attacks. But take heart—this is a sign that you are on the right path.
The enemy fights harder when God's purpose is being fulfilled. The greater the purpose, the fiercer the battle. But do not be discouraged. Instead, be encouraged. Your fight is a sign that your life and your calling are aligned with God's divine plan. The warfare is a confirmation of the greatness of what God intends to do through you.
Remember the words of Isaiah:
“Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the holy city; for the uncircumcised and the unclean shall no longer come to you.” (Isaiah 52:1-2)
This reminds us that even in the midst of battles, God's holy city and His people will ultimately be victorious. Our spiritual warfare is temporary; God's eternal purpose is assured.
And as Paul exhorts us in 2 Corinthians:
“We commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and sincere love; in truthful speech and the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left...” (2 Corinthians 6:4-7)
He reminds us that our battles—though fierce—are fought with divine strength. We are equipped for victory through Christ.
Finally, in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Paul encourages us:
“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
So, beloved, embrace your spiritual battles. They are evidence that you are part of God's divine plan. Fight the good fight with faith, prayer, and perseverance. Victory belongs to the Lord, and His purposes for your life—and for Jerusalem—will ultimately prevail.
The mission: Do not fear the battles. Instead, prepare yourself to stand firm, knowing that what is of God is worth fighting for. Trust in His power, and press on with confidence, for the greatness of the battle only signifies the greatness of God's purpose.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for revealing the spiritual significance of Jerusalem and the battles that surround it. Help us to see our own spiritual warfare as a sign of Your divine purpose in our lives. Strengthen us with Your Spirit, and give us the courage to fight the good fight. May Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Stay encouraged, warriors of faith. The wars of the holy are part of the divine plan—victory is ours through Christ Jesus. Keep pressing forward, for the glory of God and His eternal kingdom.
God bless you.
